Is Free Delivery Always the Cheapest Option?

Free delivery does not always mean the lowest cost. Compare basket thresholds, product prices and shipping conditions before choosing an offer.

Compare the known subtotal

Free delivery can make an offer more attractive, but it is only one part of the price. In an illustrative comparison, one retailer charges €120 with free shipping, while another charges €109 plus €6 shipping. The second offer is €5 cheaper, assuming the products and other buying conditions are equivalent.

Watch the minimum-spend threshold

Adding unwanted items to qualify for free delivery can increase your spending. If delivery costs €5 and reaching the threshold requires another €18 purchase, the larger basket only makes sense if you need the extra product. Check whether the threshold is calculated before or after discounts and whether your delivery destination qualifies.

Compare the delivery service

Home delivery, collection points and express shipping are different services. A free option may not meet your timing or access requirements. Large appliances and furniture can have conditions worth reading carefully, such as whether the item is brought inside or left at a specified handover point.

Check the selected item and address

When using BuyScout, compare the product price and known shipping charge together. Treat free delivery as a price component, then confirm that the service applies to your address and selected item. A shipping promotion for another variant or destination is not a confirmed saving on your order.
